Workflow errors and setting up notification of error instances

    Hi

I am using Nintex Worklfow 2010.  If a workflow errors for whatever reason, how could I configure the workflow so that an email is sent to say, a helpdesk?  Ideally, if a workflow errors then a central support team is notified of the error and can terminate workflows and restart the workflow once the error is fixed.

I can't see anything in the Workflow Settings that allows me to define what should happen when a workflow errors.  Does anyone have any ideas on how this can be done?

    Thanks.

Error Messages can be controlled at a few different levels:

    1. When configuring the more advanced workflows actions at the bottom of a configuration window you will find settings for Error Handling these options can be used to allow a workflow to continue in the event of an error (messages could be included)
    2. At the site level, if you visit Site Actions, Site Settings and take a look under the heading for Nintex Workflow you will find options for Error Notification. By default in the event of an error these settings send an email to the workflow initiator, you can add addtional email addresses to receive a message in the event of an error. You can also stop the initiator from getting these error messages.
    3. I think the same setting found at the site level are also available for the farm level via SharePoint Central Administration.

    Thanks for your reply, Rob.

Re: #1 in your reply, whereabouts do I find the Error Handling option?  Which configuration window is this option found?  I looked in the Nintex Workflow 2010 user manual and it says the error handling panel is availabe in some actions.  Which actions are these?

I have found the Site Actions > Site Settings > Workflow Error Notifications option for #2.

    Cheers.

Re: Workflow errors and setting up notification of error instances

Most of the basic workflow actions do not have Error Handling options < for example the Send Notification action has no error handling.

There is no golden rule as to which actions do or dont have error handling, but generally the more advanced the action the more likely it is to have error handling. An example of an action that does have error handling is the Execute SQL action.

Add the Execute SQL action to a workflow, double click the action to open the configuration window and take a look at the very last setting at the bottom of the window, here you can configure the error handling options.

If you have the Enterprise edition of Nintex Workflow about 40 of the 120ish actions do include error handling.
