Approval workflow triggers workflow

    Approval workflow triggers workflow

    Is there any way to prevent an approval workflow from triggering another approval?  Whenever a user approves an item, it changes the item and therefore triggers another approval.  This is an infinite loop.

    Open the workflow in design view.

    Click Workflow Settings in the ribbon.

    In the setting for Start a Workflow when an item is edited you will find that this can be conditional.

    You could try using the condition to say if the document does not have a status of approved then start a workflow.

    Interesting.  If an item is updated after being rejected or approved, then the status must automatically be reset (to blank) on the item when it is changed in an edit form then.  Does Nintex know an item is changed so it can reset the status?  Otherwise, changes to the item would never trigger the workflow after an edit.
