How do I get the workflow to prompt for the value of the variable?

This may seem basic, but I have been searching the forums for hours. I am using Nintex Workflow 2010 with SharePoint 2010.

The scenario: Some of my documents on SharePoint have an associated Approval Group and some do not. If the Approval Group is empty, I want the workflow to prompt for the value of the variable CurrApprovalGroup. I do not want the variable CurrApprovalGroup to Show on Startup, as it will not always be needed.

The question: How do I get the workflow to prompt for the value of the variable CurrApprovalGroup?

    Hi brettbourg,

once a workflow starts, it has no concept of client machines, so it can't just prompt a user for information.

The only way to do this, would be to use something like a Request Data or an Assign a ToDo Task action.  This will generate a task and email someone.  They will then need to complete that task, and then the workflow will continue and do what it needs to do.

I was afraid of that. I got it working with Request Data until a better solution comes along.

Thank you for your prompt reply and confirmation.

    Hi rsgracey,

currently, a Request Data or Assign a To Do Task action is the only way.
