    Assistance with Leave Application Workflow.

I've been tasked with putting together a leave workflow for one of our overseas offices using a web-based InfoPath 07 form and Nintex 07 workflow. One criteria of the process is it must allow managers to select whether the leave is with pay or without pay at the time of approval.

I've been wrestling with how I should best go about this. I'm not sure what options I may have. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am vaguely aware that InfoPath can use Roles but I'm not sure if it is the best fit for this problem. The form will be used by 300+ people with many approvers. Maintaining the membership of these Roles would not be practical.

    Cheers

If you use the "Manager" field in a user's Active Directory account then that user's manager can be looked up dynamically within the workflow.  You can set an approver to be {common:manager} which is a lookup and the the workflow will lookup the manager of hte user who started the workflow.

I'd suggest having a look at the tutorials at these locations for more ideas: http://connect.nintex.com/files/folders/tutorials/entry151.aspx and http://connect.nintex.com/files/folders/tutorials/entry402.aspx.

Thanks for the reply Cameron. I'll try and rephrase my question, my first attempt may not have been clear. Apologies.

Determining the manager is not the issue. The issue is getting the managers input at the approval process. When the manager receives an approval request I'd like them to

    1. Approval or reject the leave request
    2. Select whether the leave is with pay or without pay.

I've since discovered that this months release has a "Request Data" function. Is that the best way to bundle the 2 above points together or is there something else I haven't considered available to previous versions ?

Ah yes, I see. The "Request Data" action sounds ideal for you in this case.
