if you have enabled delegation for this workflow task you could delegate this task manually. For this you would need to open the workflow task, click delegate and specify new responsible and a comment.

yes, the the format can cause this error. To avoid this you need to provide user data in format 'Domain\Account'.
So I see two alternatives for you:
1. You keep your field of type 'Single line of text' and store user data in format 'Domain\Account'.
2. (And better) you create a user field of type 'Person or ...

I assume your workflow tasks are stored in list 'Workflow Tasks'. Instead of web part 'My Workflow Tasks' add another web part and point it to list 'Workflow Tasks' and view 'My Tasks'. Can you edit one of those tasks when you click on Title (link)?

in this case simply create a new view in your list 'Workflow Tasks' and define it to show only items assigned to [Me]. This will allow person logged in to see all workflows tasks assigned to him. Then add a web part to your page and point to this view.

I recomment to use the web part 'My Worflow Tasks' for this purpose.
In this web part the logged in user will see only pending workflow tasks assigned to him.
To respond to a task the user has simply to on the item, take a descission and save it.
